The bridal shower is traditionally an afternoon tea party in honour of the bride to be. It’s a get together where guests give gifts to set her up in her new home. Where did the idea originate from? During the 1890s ladies would show up with gifts and place them in a parasol. By opening it up over the bride’s head, she would be showered with presents!
Today, the concept of a bridal shower is about bringing all the closest relatives and friends together for having fun. It’s the perfect opportunity for those who have never met before to become acquainted before the wedding. A great get together needn’t mean planning a big expensive affair. The key to a successful bridal shower is delicious food and a plentiful supply of hot and cold beverages. Playing fun games is an ideal way to break the ice for those who have not yet met each other. Family members from both sides will become familiar before the big day while sharing good cheer and laughter. Oh and maybe pop a cork or two. After all, there’s plenty to celebrate, right!
